Carnivals – Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics
Students must be in attendance and compete at the designated Balmain Zone PSSA Carnival (Swimming, Cross Country or Athletics) as a member of their respective school team in order for them to be considered for selection in the Balmain Zone PSSA team to compete at the subsequent Sydney East Association PSSA Championships, unless they are:
i) competing at a higher level school sporting competition or trial conducted by Sydney East Association PSSA, NSWPSSA or School Sport Australia.
Application for consideration of inclusion procedure:
A completed ‘Consideration for Inclusion’ into a Balmain Zone PSSA Team application form must be forwarded to the Balmain Zone Carnival Convener by the published closing date for all entries.

Inclusion in the Balmain Zone PSSA team will be as an additional competitor and not at the expense of individuals who have already qualified for the Balmain Zone PSSA team.
The application is also subject to approval from the Sydney East PSSA Executive and Convener.
The Balmain Zone PSSA Convener, on behalf of the Balmain Zone PSSA Executive, will communicate the decision of the panel to the School Sports Coordinator.
Balmain Zone PSSA Teams – for participation at Sydney East Association Trials
Balmain Zone PSSA trials are held in the majority of PSSA sports where Zone team entry is a requirement and individual direct entry to Sydney East Association trials is not permitted.
Balmain Zone PSSA trials are competitive in nature and should be attended by gifted, talented or high performing students aged between 8 to 13 years. Schools should give consideration to the age appropriateness of students attending trials. Schools should also be aware of any age limitations or other criteria associated with some sports.
Each school may only send a maximum number of six (6) students to each trial. In exceptional circumstances dispensation may be given by the Balmain Zone PSSA Convener in consultation with the Balmain Zone PSSA Executive to allow additional students to trial.
Schools are not obliged to send the maximum number of trialists. A ‘Nil Return’ response to the Balmain Zone PSSA Convener is needed if a school is not sending any students to a trial.
If a student is not available for the subsequent Sydney East Association trial and/or NSW PSSA State Carnival then the student is deemed ineligible to be chosen in the Balmain Zone PSSA team.
All students trialling for a Balmain Zone PSSA team must have the school’s permission to attend. The school principal and sports organiser must sign the student’s Zone consent/permission form prior to the Zone trial to allow attendance and participation. The signed permission note should be returned to the Balmain Zone PSSA Convener by the closing date. Students who have not returned a signed consent/permission form will not be permitted to participate in the designated trial.
Students must be in attendance and compete at the Balmain Zone PSSA trial for them to be considered for selection in the Balmain Zone PSSA team to compete at the Sydney East Association PSSA trial, unless they are:
i) competing at a higher level school sporting competition or trial conducted by Sydney East PSSA, NSWPSSA or School Sport Australia; or
ii) participating in an approved, school-based overnight excursion.
